Liverpool interested in Leeds United fullback: A shrewd move by Klopp

Liverpool are looking to strengthen in the summer and have now been linked with Leeds United’s young left-back Leif Davis. The 19-year-old signed with Marcelo Bielsa’s team at the start of last season from Morecambe. Leif Davis’ contract with Leeds United expires in 2021.

He was quickly put into Leeds’ youth teams, before being promoted to the senior team by the Argentine manager. Davis featured in just 5 games for them before a knee injury put him on the treatment table for a while.

The youngster impressed in the few matches that he played for the Whites and could be one for the future. The highly-rated left-back is a modern-day full-back who likes to bomb up and down the flanks.

Is Davis a good replacement for Moreno?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shown that he likes full-backs who like to press, try to dispossess the opposition in their half and attack. A lot of the good work done in attack for the Reds have been from both full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right, and Andy Robertson on the left, and the duo has lit up Anfield on numerous occasions over the course of this season.

Robertson had a fantastic season at left-back and made the position his own, with his dynamism, never-say-die attitude, and driving runs helping him become a fan favourite at Anfield.

His deputy, Alberto Moreno, hasn’t had the best of times at Anfield this season, featuring in just 4 matches for Klopp’s side in the 2018-19 campaign. Robertson has played almost 50 games in the season for Liverpool at left-back and has been consistently good, which has resulted in Moreno not getting any games.

The Spaniard, meanwhile, is out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to be offered a new one at Anfield. This means that there is an opportunity for a player like Leif Davis, a young, energetic, and talented left-back, to be a part of the Liverpool squad.

Klopp likes working with young players, which bodes well for a possible transfer of Davis to Liverpool. Davis will also be available for a low price, with reports suggesting that he could be available for as low as £4 million.

This could be a good move for both Davis and Liverpool and one that Klopp will do good to see through.
