Leicester City eyeing a transfer for former Liverpool attacker: A good option for Rodgers

Leicester City ended the season on a high, with the appointment of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers acting as a catalyst for the Foxes.

In the final 10 games of the Premier League campaign, the former Premier League champions won 5, drew 2, and lost 3; one of their losses was a narrow 1-0 defeat to eventual champions Manchester City.

Rodgers’ side finished the season in 9th position, just 5 points away from a Europa League spot. The former Celtic and Liverpool manager will look to build on the good form of his side at the tail end of the season to take to next season by signing a few quality players.

One player Rodgers is reportedly interested in is 23-year-old winger Jordon Ibe, a player who made his breakthrough at Liverpool under the Ulsterman.

Ibe moved from Liverpool to Bournemouth in 2016 for a then-record fee of £16.20 million. The youngster, though, didn’t feature much this season for Bournemouth, starting just 13 games for the club as another young attacker, 21-year-old David Brooks, was often chosen ahead of him by manager Eddie Howe.

Ibe will have just one year on his Bournemouth contract in the summer, which could mean that he will be available at a cut-price fee.

Is Ibe a good option for Rodgers?

The 23-year-old could be a useful option for the Foxes next season. Ibe is a direct player who likes to take on defenders and put in teasing crosses into the box.

Leicester have used several players on the right side of midfield, with Marc Albrighton, Rachid Ghezzal, and even full-back Ricardo Pereira playing there, but none of them have been Rodgers’ first-choice on the right.

Ibe likes to drift inside and get involved in central areas while he is also a solid player out wide, putting in through balls and crosses.

The former Liverpool man is a player who has lost some confidence over the last year or so, and has been relegated to the bench by Eddie Howe. At Leicester, things could change for the Englishman as he will be playing under the manager who gave him his debut and who holds him in high regard.

At 23 years of age, Ibe is at an age when he needs to get first-team football to improve on the pitch. A switch to Leicester seems like a good move for him and the club.
