Everton eyeing a transfer for PSG star: What will he add to the team?

Everton have made some big signings in the last few transfer windows, thanks to the new owners, who have pumped in money to get the Toffees challenging for a place in Europe.

Now it seems that Marco Silva will be given more money in the summer, as the club have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier, as per Euro United via Get French Football News.

The versatile Belgian, who can play as a full-back, wing-back or on the right side of midfield, has just one year on his contract, which expires in 2020, and PSG could let him go, according to the report.

Meunier signed for the Ligue 1 champions in 2016 from Belgian side Club Brugge for €7 million, and has made just under 100 appearances in the three seasons for the Parisian club.

The Belgian hasn’t been the first-choice right-back as current manager Thomas Tuchel has mixed things around, playing Dani Alves and Thilo Kehrer in that position this year, apart from Meunier.

Everton haven’t put in a bid yet, but could do so soon.

What will Meunier add to the Everton team?

Meunier has been a steady figure in the PSG defence, but has fallen out-of-favour with PSG fans because of his measured approach rather than the quick, attacking style of the likes of Dani Alves, or former PSG full-back Serge Aurier, who currently plays for Tottenham.

The Belgian defender is a hard-working individual who can put in superb crosses into the box, while also being at the right place at the right time with his clever runs.

In the 30 games that he played for the French club this season, Meunier scored five times and provided four assists in all competitions. Meunier is a player who likes to pass and move further up the pitch rather than run with the ball for the length of the pitch.

The 27-year old is a good defender, using his height to clear away balls while also getting in good positions without the ball. The Belgian defender could be a useful addition to Everton, giving Marco Silva another option in the right-back position.

Seamus Coleman has been a regular name to play in the right-back position for Everton in the last few years, but injuries have curtailed his game time. 22-year-old Jonjoe Kenny has also played at right-back this season but the signing of Meunier would be a big jump in quality for Silva’s team.
