By the end of June, former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck will be a free agent as his contract with his current side Arsenal, expires. Welbeck is free to talk to any club and there are reports that are suggesting that Everton could be one of the clubs interested in signing him.
The Englishman’s final game for the Gunners will be the Europa League final, which he may be a part of despite being injured for a significant period of time. The report states that Welbeck is keen on joining a club playing in the Champions League, but Everton could tempt him to sign for them by offering more money than his current salary.
Welbeck is a player who is wanted not only by Everton, but Newcastle United were also linked with him earlier this month, while West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Wolves are also keen on signing him.
The Arsenal forward has had a miserable time with injuries which has restricted his playing time over the last few seasons. But he seems to have recovered from them, even scoring a hat-trick in a friendly match in the build-up to the Europa League final.
He has made 14 appearances for the Gunners this season, scoring 5 goals and assisting 1 time.
Everton manager Marco Silva needs a few players to add to his squad to strengthen over the summer and compete for a place in European football next season, and adding depth to his squad will be one of his targets.
The Merseyside club desperately need a centre forward who can score 20 goals a season, but Welbeck is not that player. The Arsenal forward can be a useful operator who can play in multiple positions – out on the wings or even as a central striker, but he isn’t as prolific to be the No. 1 striker at the club.
The English forward has the pace to get in behind defenders while also being a good dribbler. Welbeck could be a useful signing for Silva, especially now that he is available on a free transfer for Everton.
Hence a transfer for Danny Welbeck, while economic and useful in some parts, will not be enough for Marco Silva to make a push for a top 6 finish which he will surely be aiming for after a solid second half of the recently concluded season.
