Tottenham Hotspur Finally Set To Strengthen The Attack: Respite For Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer move for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota; it has been claimed.

According to Express, the Portuguese starlet has been identified as a top-target by Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to bulk up his attacking department in the summer.

Tottenham have the cash to burn after failing to sign a single player in the last two transfer windows. However, they could face a tough time negotiating with Wolves, who are reluctant to let go of their prized asset in the summer.

Diogo Jota: A smart choice by Pochettino

Tottenham have lacked resources in the attacking department this season. While injuries to Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier have forced Christian Eriksen to operate in a deeper role at times, Dele Alli has also mustered 1,281 minutes of league football, notably missing a chunk of the season due to a thigh and a hamstring problem.

In addition, the likes of Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela have both failed to make a solid impression lacking consistency required in a title-chasing club, meaning the club has appeared overreliant on the services of Son Heung-Min, at times, thus accentuating the need of a new attacker in the summer. And that’s where Jota could come into the fray.

The Portuguese attacker is primarily known for his versatility in the final third as he can not only feature in the number 10 role but also as a secondary striker. He can be deployed as a winger, as well, which was evident during his time at FC Porto.

Jota’s ability to create chances for himself using his sublime dribbling skills and excellent footwork makes him a threat for the opposition defence. No other Wolves player has attempted as many dribbles as Jota this season, which is indicative of his willingness to take on defenders.

Although he can operate from wider positions, Jota is most effective when deployed in a central role, where he can manipulate the opposition with his clever passes.

This could be beneficial for a Tottenham side, who have lacked depth in their attacking department this season. The Portuguese starlet, therefore, can be utilized as a back-up for Alli in the number ten role but alternatively, he can also be accommodated in a wider role.
