Barcelona Transfer News: Shock Move Planned For Isak

Barcelona have identified Alexander Isak as a potential summer target, it has been claimed.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Alexander Isak has once again emerged as a shock target for the Spanish giants, who will be keen to bulk up their attacking options in the summer.

Isak has impressed the onlookers of the Eredivisie with his blistering performances with Willem II and a big-money could be on the horizon.

Alexander Isak: A risky option for Barcelona

Isak was considered as a huge failure after initially failing to make a first-team impression under the tutelage of Peter Stoger last season. His lack of physical prowess coupled with his lack of concentration made it difficult for him to thrive in the faster-paced nature of the Bundesliga.

As a result, Isak was sent to the Netherlands until the end of the season earlier this year. But, since his move to Willem II, the Swedish prospect has been in immense goalscoring form, having plundered 10 goals in ten matches.

Isak’s impressive form has helped Willem II climb to the top half of the Eredivisie table but his rise in stock has also garnered interest from top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

However, a move to Catalonia in the summer could come a little too soon for the 19-year-old, who is still yet to prove himself in any of Europe’s top five leagues. Even though he found opportunities hard to come by during his time with Dortmund, his lack of concentration and timidity on the ball could prove to be a problem when integrating to Spanish football.

Furthermore, at the age of 19, Isak could find it difficult to cope with the soaring expectation that is usually associated with any new Barcelona signing. Therefore, it would perhaps be wiser for him to return to Dortmund next season.

His promising run in the Eredivisie this season will surely ensure him more game-time under Lucien Favre at Dortmund next season, especially if we consider the topsy-turvy form of star recruit Paco Alcacer this campaign.

The presence of Isak would, therefore, provide Favre with additional options in the attacking department, which has struggled a lot due to frequent injuries to key players throughout the course of this campaign.

As for Barcelona, they should definitely shift their attention to a more proven youngster, who will be willing to play as second fiddle to the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez but can also instantly cope with the dynamic nature of Spanish football.
