Why Arsenal should make a move for this PSG star in the summer transfer window

Arsenal have been handed a boost in the chase for PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot as Barcelona have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the Frenchman.

It was another away game and another dire performance from Arsenal as they lost 3-1 to Rennes in the Europa League, and it’s likely the Gunners will strengthen in the summer.

Aaron Ramsey’s impending departure means Arsenal are very likely to target a midfielder, and Rabiot is possibly the best option as he will be available for free.

According to a report by the Mirror, Barcelona are no longer interested in Rabiot, which makes it easier for Arsenal.

Why Arsenal should make a move for Adrien Rabiot

Arsenal’s midfield and defence have often looked weak this season which is why the side have failed to manage a consistent run of results. The Gunners seem attack heavy as they have talented players in attack, but the spine of the team is weak.

Emery has tried to make the Gunners play out from the back, and after initial struggled, Arsenal have gotten better at it. But there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Rabiot isn’t a like for like replacement for Ramsey as he prefers playing in central midfield as opposed to Ramsey who prefers making those runs into the attacking half.

The Frenchman is more of a number eight, while Ramsey is best suited to a number 10 role. Rabiot’s addition to the team would hence allow Emery in terms of building up from the back.

Rabiot is technically gifted and can pick a pass from his own half if needed, and that makes him a wanted commodity. It’s no coincidence that Barcelona wanted him as his passing ability is impressive.

What makes Rabiot a good fit for Arsenal is he doesn’t think twice about dribbling out from midfield.

Before he was left in the wilderness by Thomas Tuchel, Rabiot made 14 appearances in Ligue 1, and offered the team security in midfield. The Frenchman averaged 2.5 tackles a game in the league, and showed that he can defend when called upon.

Arsenal couldn’t afford to spend money in the January transfer window, which means their summer transfer budget might not be big, so Rabiot, on a free transfer, would be a prudent move.
