Opinion: Tottenham Hotspur should sign this Spanish superstar if Eriksen leaves

Tottenham Hotspur might be in for a difficult time in the summer transfer window as some of their stars will be courted by other big clubs in Europe.

Christian Eriksen is one player who has been linked with a move away, with Real Madrid seen as potential suitors following the return of Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane guided the side to three Champions League titles in a row, and considering a lot of the players have underperformed this season, we believe a summer overhaul is likely to be in the picture.

One of the players whose future might be elsewhere is Isco. The Spaniard was used sparingly by Zidane in his first run Champions League title run, and then was used in the tip of a diamond formation in the second season.

However, considering Eriksen’s versatility, the Dane is already on Madrid’s radar. It’s also worth noting that contract extension talks with the club have stalled, so Spurs have to prepare for life without Eriksen.

The best replacement? Isco.

Why Isco would be the ideal replacement for Eriksen

The Spaniard has struggled to assert himself at Real Madrid partly because of the number of changes the club have gone through in recent months.

At times, his ability has been his biggest enemy, as he has been shoehorned in different roles, almost assuming he’ll perform well because he has the quality and composure on the ball.

Comparisons to the great Andres Iniesta have done him no good as well, as that creates a pressure of its own.

Isco’s best form for Real Madrid was seen when Zidane gave the Spaniard a free role in attack. Because of how well the 26-year old can carry the ball in attack or pick a pass, marking him is a nightmare for opposition defenders.

At Tottenham, there might be a clash with Dele Alli who excels in a similar kind of role, but signing Isco would help Spurs unlock defences because of the Spaniard’s passing ability and vision.

Eriksen’s form has dipped in the last few weeks or so and that has coincided with Spurs’ bad run of form, which goes to show how good important a player the Dane is for Spurs.

If Real Madrid come in for Eriksen, Spurs will have the ball in their court and should demand a swap move as it’s the best possible outcome in the scenario.
