Calvert-Lewin and Pickford Impress: Everton Players Rated In Sensational Win vs Chelsea

After a shambolic defeat to Newcastle United last weekend, Everton returned to winning ways by securing a sensational 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The Toffees had an awful start to the game, with Chelsea dominating the entirety of the first-half. But, an improved display after the restart was enough to take the Blues by surprise.

Jordan Pickford (8/10): An excellent performance from the England international, who was kept busy throughout the course of the game. His save to deny Gonzalo Higuain in the first half, in particular, was eye-catching and it was, overall, a deserved clean sheet for the 25-year-old.

Seamus Coleman (7.5/10): Following a somewhat erratic first-half display, Coleman showed his true colours after the restart when the Irish international was defensively solid and prevented the likes of Eden Hazard and Marcus Alonso from finding any inroads into the Everton backline.

Michael Keane (9/10): Marshalled the defence with a compose defensive display, where the England international was solid in dealing with Higuain while he also made some crucial tackles to stop the Chelsea attackers in their tracks.

Yerry Mina (7.5/10): Looked rusty with the ball during the first half hour of the game but improved as the game progressed. The Colombian offered excellent support to Keane in the second half as Everton managed to keep the Chelsea attack at bay.

Lucas Digne (7/10): Made some sloppy passes in the first half, which could have had dire consequences. He was also slightly ineffective with his offensive runs forward, though he provided excellent support to Everton’s build-up from the back.

Idrissa Gueye (7.5/10): His energy and tenacity in midfield was one of the key reasons behind Everton’s improved display in the second half as the Senegalese international hurried and hassled Chelsea’s ball-carriers.

Andre Gomes (6/10): It certainly wasn’t the best of games for Andre Gomes, who struggled to provide the creative spark in midfield and was rightly taken off during the final phase of the game.

Richarlison (8.5/10): Yet another energetic display from the Brazilian, whose willingness to test the defenders became a nightmare for Chelsea. After being gifted the opener by Kepa just after the restart, Richarlison won the penalty in the 72nd minute to seal all three points for his side.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (7/10): It was quite an ineffective performance from the Icelandic international, who was isolated in midfield. The former Swansea star also missed a penalty and got lucky with the rebound.

Bernard (6.5/10): Struggled to get past Azpilicueta but his combination play with the likes of Digne and Sigurdsson, especially in the second-half was eye-catching.

Dominic-Calvert Lewin (9/10): His remarkable work-ethic and willingness to fight for his team was truly inspiring as the youngster continued to occupy the Chelsea defenders by making a host of runs in and around the final third. Calvert Lewin’s hold-up play was also excellent, and he certainly deserved a goal at the end.

SUBSTITUTES

Morgan Schneiderlin (8/10): Provided the much-needed stability in midfield after replacing the ineffective Gomes in the 68th minute. Protected the backline with some key tackles and excellent positioning.

Theo Walcott (NA): Replaced Bernard with just 12 minutes remaining on the clock.

Tom Davies (NA): Replaced Sigurdsson in the 86th minute.
