Tottenham Hotspur eye £50m summer bid for attacker to end transfer hiatus: A smart move

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with summer a move for Bournemouth defender David Brooks.

Brooks has had a stunning season with the Cherries so far and has attracted attention from Manchester United as well.

According to the Mirror, Tottenham are looking to beat the Red Devils in the summer, and are preparing a £50million summer bid for the attacking midfielder.

Brooks recently starred in Bournemouth’s thumping 4-0 win against Chelsea in the Premier League, and is contracted with the club until 2022 having signed from Sheffield United in the summer of 2018.

Brooks’ rise in the top-flight having just made the move last summer has been a bit of a surprise.

The 21-year old has made 22 appearances in the Premier League and has already scored six times and has provided four assists.

A versatile player, Brooks can play on the right wing or as an attacking midfielder and his eye for a pass is something that belies his age.

Brooks has even managed to better last season’s goal tally at Sheffield United, which is impressive considering it’s his first season in the top flight.

A smart move by Tottenham

Brooks is still very young, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to break into the Spurs first team immediately.

Pochettino has chiselled the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks extremely well, and someone like Brooks might be another smart addition to the team in the long run.

Eddie’s Howe’s attacking set-up has brought the best out of Brooks, and if he moves to Spurs, he is unlikely to struggle with the system because it’s designed for players like Brooks to flourish in.

Brooks can feature as an inverted winger in the 4-2-3-1 Tottenham set-up, and his ability to split open a defence with his smart through passes means every time he cuts in, he’ll bring the right full-back into play.

The 21-year old’s addition would also provide an extra option in the attacking midfield role and improve the depth of the squad, something Spurs need to keep challenging for silverware.

A fee of £50 million might seem steep, but considering Tottenham haven’t spent a penny in the last two transfer windows, they need to make necessary reinforcements and back Pochettino in the coming summer.
