Tottenham Hotspur Want Serie A Defensive Rock: 3 Reasons Why He’d Be A Good Buy

According to Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting a move for Sampdoria’s centre-back Joachim Andersen.

Apart from Spurs, Manchester United are also monitoring him closely. However, uncertainty with respect to the managerial situation of the Red Devils might allow Spurs to get the upper hand. He is likely to cost around £35m.

Andersen had represented FC Twente prior to his move to Sampdoria, and has been an instrumental figure for the Italian outfit this season.

Here are three reasons why Spurs should leave no stone unturned in their quest to sign him.

#1 Replacement for Alderweireld

Spurs have triggered a clause in Toby Alderweireld’s contract to extend his stay in north London until 2020. In doing so, a release clause of £25m will be activated in the summer which would allow the Belgian centre-back to leave in the summer.

Reportedly, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Belgian centre-half. It’s imperative Tottenham plan for life without him and Andersen certainly has the potential to be his long-term successor.

#2 Andersen has what it takes to be a good player at Spurs

Andersen is one of the hottest properties in Serie A. The commanding central defender has steadily moved upwards in his career owing to his resolute defensive abilities and has shown immense maturity and calmness at the back that perhaps belies his age.

In 18 Italian top flight appearances so far this season, he has managed 1.1 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 5.1 clearances per game on an average.

Andersen is sharp and decisive, dominant in the air, and his vision and passing range allow him to play a part in the build-up from the back.

#3 Pochettino’s ability to get the best out of young talents

Pochettino has the know-how of blooding young talents, having integrated the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, and Kyle Walker-Peters, and has taken their game to the next level. The Argentine knows exactly which button to push to get the best out of his young guns.

The Lilywhites have shown a lot of support and belief towards young players and are one of the few clubs where rising players can develop their game.

Andersen’s union with Pochettino could be a beneficial one for Spurs as well as for the player in the coming seasons.
