Burnley Eye a Move for Former Eredivisie Goal-Machine: A Calculated Risk?

In a quest to add more firepower to their squad, Burnley have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen.

According to Daily Mail, the Clarets are keeping close tabs on the Dutchman who is now out of favour ay north London.

Despite Harry Kane’s absence due to injury, Janssen has not been called upon by manager Mauricio Pochettino, and it looks like the striker is not in the Argentine’s plans.

Pochettino preferred Fernando Llorente up top in the side’s last two fixtures.

Intriguingly, Janssen failed to make it to the bench on the two occasions as the Lilywhites gave young striker Kazaiah Sterling a place on the bench instead.

The 24-year-old has been a part of the Premier League 2 squad of the north London side after recovering from a foot injury which he suffered earlier in the season.

Janssen to Burnley: A good player, but a risky move

Burnley have certainly struggled to score goals this season. They have managed to find the back of the net merely 23 times in their 23 league outings so far, and they need to score more in the business end of the season to avoid a nervy ending.

The likes of Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes have flattered to deceive and the lack of productivity up front has put a lot of pressure on the defence.

Sean Dyche’s men are currently 16th in the league standings, and are just three points above the relegation zone.

Janssen might provide some freshness to Burnley’s attack, even though he has failed to impress at Spurs.

The Dutchman is a strong centre-forward and can hold the ball well in the final third. Janssen is also pretty quick and can stretch defences, unlike Wood and Barnes who aren’t known for their pace.

The 24-year old was a key player for AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, but his development went downhill after his move to Spurs as Kane’s presence never allowed him a string of games to show what he can do.

In his spell with AZ, Janssen scored 32 goals in 49 goals and was a proven goalscorer in the Dutch top-flight.

If his move to the Turf Moor materialises and if Dyche gives the player consistent playing time, he might proce to be a pretty good addition.

However, the lack of first-team football so far means Janssen’s potential arrival would come with some risks.
