Why Tottenham Hotspur Should Pounce On This Wantaway PSG Star

According to RMC Radio (Via Sport), PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot will not renew his contract with the club, after learning he is not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

The Frenchman’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be available to sign a pre-contract in January and thereby, leaving PSG for free in the summer.

This could be an excellent opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur, who are keen to bolster their midfield department in the near future. But will the Frenchman be an ideal fit for Spurs?

Adrien Rabiot: Player profile

Known for his excellent technical qualities, Rabiot is a skilled midfielder who mainly excels in recycling possession The Frenchman has racked up over 60 passes per game in each of the past four seasons with over 90% accuracy.

In addition, Rabiot is an excellent tackler, averaging 2.4 tackles per game with a success rate of 75%. Although he may not be a midfield enforcer like Fernandinho or Arturo Vidal, Rabiot has the quality as well as the work ethic to provide a cover for the backline whilst help his team control the midfield.

Offensively, Rabiot yielded his career-best tally of 0.8 key passes per game last season, indicating that his overall creativity is on an upward trend. Moreover, the 23-year-old amassed nearly one attempt per game, which is not bad considering his role as a deep-lying playmaker at PSG.

That being said, Rabiot isn’t exactly proficient when it comes to man-marking while occasional lapse of concentration prevents him from being a complete midfielder.

Why Tottenham Hotspur should pounce on Adrien Rabiot

Tottenham Hotspur should definitely make a move for Adrien Rabiot given the fact that the Lilywhites have struggled in midfield this season. Eric Dier’s form hasn’t been convincing while Mousa Dembele awful injury record hasn’t helped either.

Therefore, Mauricio Pochettino would certainly welcome a world class midfielder who can offer in both defence and going forward. Rabiot, in that regard, is a perfect choice.

The Frenchman is blessed with immense technical qualities which is an ideal characteristic for any player working under Pochettino, who, in turn, is known for his proficiency in developing young players.

In addition, Rabiot’s acquisition will allow Dier to play in his natural centre-back position, thus offering Pochettino more flexibility in terms of his tactical choices in midfield.

And more importantly, the Lilywhites will have the opportunity to sign the PSG star on a free transfer next summer, if they manage to agree on a pre-contract with Rabiot in January – which could be a steal given the sheer quality of the player.
