Why Wolves Should Make Another Move For 28 Y/O Manchester United Star

Transfer Story

According to a Birmingham Mail report, Wolves are expected to go back in for Manchester United centre-back, Marcos Rojo in the January transfer window.

It is widely known that Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen to sign the player in the summer but the deal did not take place due to a number of reasons.

Manchester United had failed to secure a big name defensive signing and Jose was unsure of his options and still is to an extent. But amongst the current options at his disposal, he has zeroed in on Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof to lead the defence. Rojo has been injured for major portions this season and when fit, hasn’t been picked.

There was also the matter of the player hinting that he wouldn’t consider moving to Wolves, as they were a ‘small’ club. But a difference of just 4 points with United and a number of terrific displays till now has enough firepower to change the out-of-favour defender’s stance.

MORE ON THE PLAYER

Marcos Rojo is a 28-year-old Argentine. He plays as a centre-back and is also adept at putting in a shift at left-back. He has not featured this season due to injury with 54 minutes clocked for the U-23s, his only piece of action on the pitch.

His passing ability has got multiple mentions in the past and his ability to keep possession of the ball is also well-documented. His experience at the top level, especially whilst playing for Manchester United and the Argentine national team holds him in good stead currently.

He is a no-nonsense defender when it comes to actually defending when his team is on the backfoot and does not shy away from clearing the ball and engage in physical duels.

But lack of pace has been a deterrent in his progress for quite some time now and with age, it has understandably not gotten better. He gets caught out of position at times and finds hard to catch up with his adversary, more often than not, leading to fouls and bookings.

SHOULD WOLVES MAKE A MOVE?

Wolves have impressed one and all in their comeback season. But the failure to win in their past four games has led to a lull and they currently sit in the 11th spot.

In 12 games this season, they have kept four cleans sheets and going forward, Nuno will look to improve this particular stat and give his team a better chance to take all three points.

A fit Rojo will be an upgrade in their defensive ranks. Wolves play with three centre-backs. Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Willy Boly line up in front of Rui Patricio and Rojo will certainly provide a reliable option and arguably a better one.

But his injury history and current form will be taken into serious consideration by the club before making any sort of move. The left-footed player has missed 71 games for United since the 2015/16 season. This will be a cause for concern but Rojo is a player who we certainly believe will flourish in a mid-table Premier League club.
