Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings vs West Ham: Lamela Impresses Again

Tottenham Hotspur made it four league wins in a row by securing a narrow victory against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon. The Lilywhites did not have too many chances but were efficient as Erik Lamela’s first-half header proved to be the decisive goal.

Here are the Tottenham player ratings:

Hugo Lloris (9/10): Spurs have Hugo Lloris to thank for their hard-fought clean sheet against West Ham. While the Hammers grew in confidence, looking more and more dangerous as the game wore on, Lloris came up with a host of saves to deny them the equaliser. He made three excellent saves to deny Marko Arnautovic in the second half, making him one of the most impressive players on the pitch.

Kieran Trippier (6.5/10): His lack of defensive awareness was exposed as West Ham stormed forward from the right-flank on several occasions. Michail Antonio, in particular, caused him a lot of trouble late in the game.

Davinson Sanchez (7/10): Looked shaky while defending against early on during the game. But, he grew into the game and ended up producing a decent defensive display.

Toby Alderweireld (8/10): Yet another composed performance from the Belgian international. He will play a key role in the midweek Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven.

Ben Davies (6.5/10): Replaced Rose in the left-back role but was largely disappointing in the role.

Moussa Sissoko (8/10): A good performance yet again from the Frenchman, who had an impressive game against Cardiff City before the international break. Sissoko provided a few dangerous crosses before setting up Erik Lamela’s winner just before half-time.

Eric Dier (7/10): A sluggish performance from the England international, who still looks unconvincing when deployed as a defensive midfielder. His disappointing display was somewhat overshadowed by Harry Winks’ excellent performance at the centre of the pitch.

Harry Winks (8/10): Orchestrated the play pretty well with his pin-point passing. Indeed, Winks attempted more passes than anyone else on the pitch and mustered an impressive accuracy of 90%. He also had 85 touches, which was only bettered by Trippier.

Most importantly, Winks showed that he is also capable of carrying the ball around the half-spaces, thus working as a transitional midfielder which could come in handy for Mauricio Pochettino given the injury-ravaged season Mousa Dembele is having.

Erik Lamela (9/10): Lamela was one of the bright spots in an otherwise dire attacking performance by Tottenham. The Argentine international linked with the likes of Lucas Moura and Harry Kane going forward and scored the winner just before half-time with a thumping header. He has now scored three goals in just five appearances this season.

Lucas Moura (7.5/10): While his final product may be questionable, Lucas Moura was excellent in linking up with his teammates in the final third. He showed tremendous zest to take on opposing defenders and was a livewire throughout the course of the game. However, he needs to get on the score-sheet more often.

Harry Kane (7/10): Had a very limited number of opportunities despite impressing with his overall gameplay in the final third. He was taken off just before the final whistle with Pochettino having one eye on the Champions League fixture.
