Tottenham Hotspur Eyeing A Transfer For Serie A Goal-Machine: The Right Choice?

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Genoa star striker Krzysztof Piatek. The Polish forward has raised a lot of eyebrows this season, having already plundered eight goals in just six games.

Barcelona and Manchester City are believed to be keen on acquiring his services along with Liverpool. However, recent reports claim that Tottenham have joined the race to sign the 23-year-old as they look to reinforce their attacking department. But, will he prove to be a valuable addition for the Lilywhites?

Krzysztof Piatek – Player profile and stats

Piatek initially made his move from Cracovia Krakow to Genoa for a fee of just €4.5 million. He had a great season in the Polish Ekstraklasa, where he had scored 21 goals in 36 matches, helping his side lift the title, before his move to Genoa

And after arriving at the Italian top flight, the 23-year-old has managed to replicate his hot form in front of goal, netting 13 times in just eight matches in all competitions.

Piatek has been utilised as a front-man alongside Christian Kouame in Genoa’s two-pronged offensive line. His smart sense of positioning coupled with his lethal finishing makes him a massive threat to the opposition. He has been compared to English striker Harry Kane, who possesses deadly goal-scoring abilities in the final third.

Indeed, the Pole has averaged over four shots on goal this season, bettered only by Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has bagged only three goals in seven matches.

Piatek’s aerial prowess is also impressive; he has won 2.1 headed duels per game. Although he needs to work on his ball retention, Genoa coach Ivan Juric believes that Piatek has the potential to become much more than just a regular goalscorer.

Why Tottenham would be a bad move for Piatek

Despite boasting a wealth of talent and quality, a move to Tottenham Hotspur might not be the ideal one for Krzysztof Piatek given the fact that he will struggle to dethrone Harry Kane as Spurs’ number one forward. Therefore, his chances of making a first team impression could be minimal and he could very well face the same fate as Fernando Llorente.

His limited style of play will also restrict coach Mauricio Pochettino in utilising him anywhere else across the final third. Furthermore, it has been only a few months since he made a move to Genoa and thus, remaining in Italy for a couple of years or so to continue his progress is something he should look at right now.
