After a draw and a defeat, Leeds United returned to winning ways when they beat Hull City this past Wednesday. It wasn’t the easiest of outings as both teams created a quite a few chances but had just the one shot on target. Luckily for Leeds, Tyler Roberts’ stunning strike from outside the box was enough to secure the three points.
The team will next host Brentford who have made a pretty impressive start to the season and currently sit five places behind Leeds on the Championship table. They were held by Birmingham City, a side who troubled Leeds United as well but will be no pushovers when they take on Bielsa’s side.
Leeds have been lauded for their dynamic style of play which has resulted in them scoring 21 goals so far this season. Brentford haven’t done too badly either as they have managed 19 strikes in 11 games.
Injuries have stopped Leeds United from realising their true potential but the fact that Bielsa’s side still lead the rest of the teams shows how far the squad has come under the Chilean. Bielsa will not be able to call upon Berardi, Roofe, Hernandez and Bamford. Defender Barry Douglas is the latest player to have picked up an injury.
Douglas’ hamstring injury means he’ll miss the game against Brentford and that gives Bielsa another selection headache.
Defence
Leeds went with a three at the back setup against Hull City, and we could see Bielsa stick to the same formation once again. Bailey Peacock-Farrell should line up in goal. The trio of Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips will form the three-man defence.
Midfield
With Douglas out, we expected Jamie Shackleton to start on the left side of the midfield. Bielsa went with a diamond with Samu Saiz playing as the number 10. The Spaniard’s ability to thread a pass will be critical when they take on Brentford.
Mateusz Klich starred in the deeper role, and his distribution will be something to watch out for in that role. Luke Ayling will complete the midfield and feature on the right.
Attack
Leeds created quite a few chances against Hull last time but couldn’t take them. The fans will expect the front three of Alioski, Roberts and Harrison to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.
Alioski – Roberts – Harrison
Shackleton – Klich – Saiz – Ayling
Cooper – Jansson – Phillips
