The departure of Ivan Gazidis has made Raul Sanllehi the head of football at Arsenal and as per one of the latest reports by the Sun, the Gunners have put Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega on their radar. The new chiefs of the club want more competition in the midfield.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery worked with Banega while he was the manager of Sevilla and the Spaniard is keen to reunite with him. The report states that the 30-year-old has a release clause of £18m on his contract which is due to expire at the end of the upcoming season.
Although Emery was keen to lure Banega to the Emirates Stadium, the player chose to extend his spell with his current club. Pursuing the Argentine international would be one of the first tasks for Sanllehi whose entry in the ranks of Arsenal will push the likes of Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to perform better.
In 31 appearances, Banega scored 3 goals and also garnered 3 assists in La Liga last term and owing to his experience, he would be a huge addition at the north London based outfit. The central midfielder has featured regularly for Argentina and despite his lack of experience of English football, he has the tools to adjust in the same.
