Liverpool have started their new season in the Premier League in a dazzling manner, having clinched victory in each of their first four league encounters. As a result, Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying troops are placed at the top of the league table and are set to mount a serious challenge for the title.
Despite their fine form, Manchester United legend and reputed TV pundit Gary Neville has stated that the Reds must forget about the Champions League if they are to aim at bagging the Premier League silverware. Neville believes that playing in both the competitions wanes the players to a considerable extent and their quality falls later on.
Speaking to The Times, he said: “The Champions League-if I was Liverpool, I would kick it into touch. I know that’s very hard to do but if they could go into February, March, April without it, I think they could have a real chance if they had free weeks.” Interestingly, Liverpool came very close to clinching the Champions League last term.

Arguably, Liverpool are the only team capable of challenging Manchester City in their defence of the title this term and Neville’s idea of asking them to focus only on the league title makes a lot of sense.
