Chelsea’s winning run in the Premier League this season ceased to exist as they were held to a goalless draw by their local rivals West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday. The Blues flattered to deceive against the Hammers and looked rusty to a considerable extent.
Their draw, coupled with Liverpool’s thumping 3-0 win over Southampton at the Anfield, enabled the Reds to leapfrog past them and regain the top spot of the league table with a margin of a couple of points. Jurgen Klopp’s team have seemingly appeared to be formidable this season and there is no denying that.
The fluidity in Liverpool’s attack, calmness in the midfield and resilience at the back has been evident. Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri believes that his side are still some notable distance behind Liverpool to challenge them for the topmost position of the league standings.
Speaking to the press after the game against Manuel Pellegrini’s troops, Sarri said: “Liverpool are a step forward of us at this moment. We have started to work together 40 days ago, less 10 days for the international break, so for us it is a bit early. We have to work and then, maybe, in one year we will be at the same level as Liverpool.”
