Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have successfully lured Gareth McAuley to the Ibrox Stadium on a free transfer. McAuley left the ranks of West Bromwich Albion at the end of the previous campaign following their relegation to the Championship.
The 38-year-old has become fifteenth signing for Steven Gerrard ever since he took over the managerial hot-seat at Rangers earlier this summer. McAuley has signed for the Light Blues for a season, despite reports linking him to Ipswich Town, Hearts and Aberdeen.
McAuley has inked an illustrious career and is nothing short of a veteran of the game. He has previously plied his trade for the likes of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Lincoln City. Besides, the central defender has collected 79 international caps to his name while playing for Northern Ireland.
Speaking to Rangers TV after his move to Gerrard’s camp, he said: “The opportunity to come and play at this famous club is amazing. My family support the club, myself as well. The street I was born on, the kerbs were painted red, white and blue. I want to help develop them and also challenge them to play in the team.”
