Everton

Best Everton XI based on their first four Premier League matches

Following four weeks of non-stop club footballing action, the international break has given us a breather. This, however, has given us some valuable time to review every side’s performances so far.

And in this article, we will be taking a look at the best possible eleven Everton should opt for, based on their performances so far this season.

Defence

Jordan Pickford should undoubtedly be the man between the sticks for Everton. That being said, the Toffees should be careful, especially with the English international drawing a lot of attention thanks to his incredible 2018 World Cup campaign in the summer.

Seamus Coleman has been good and deserves to retain his place in the side with new signing Lucas Digne featuring on the opposite flank. Things do get a bit messy in central defence, however.

New signing Yerry Mina is apparently recovering from a foot injury and thus, he is yet to make his Premier League. Meaning Mason Holgate should retain his place in the starting eleven with Michael Keane partnering him in central defence.

Keane has arguably been Everton’s best player so far, having won a series of aerial duels and ground challenges. The former Burnley star has made 16 clearances, four blocks, five interceptions and won 14 aerial duels in just three matches.

Midfield

Idrissa Gueye remains an assured starter, having recorded more interceptions than any other Everton player. Alongside him, Tom Davies gets the nod ahead of Morgan Schneiderlin.

Davies has the dynamism and industry to make things happen in midfield while Gueye’s sensational work-rate is tailor-made for Silva’s footballing philosophy.

However, it remains to be seen if new signing Andre Gomes manages to make an impact in the Premier League once he returns from his muscle injury.

The Portuguese superstar joined the club earlier this summer to replace the departed Davy Klaassen, who, in turn, has joined Werder Bremen.

Attack

Coach Marco Silva will have no reason to change his attacking setup whatsoever with the duo of Theo Walcott and Richarlison firing on all cylinders.

In addition, Gylfi Sigurdsson has looked much better and same can be said of Cenk Tosun as well, despite the fact that the Turkish international is yet to score this season.

Tosun’s work ethic and industry have enabled the likes of Theo Walcott and Richarlison to use their pace and dynamism in the final third.
