According to the Mirror, Arsenal are ready to compete with Inter Milan for the services of Ismaila Sarr. The Stade Rennais winger raised a lot of eyebrows by scoring a wonder goal in the UEFA Europa League last week, which has attracted the interest of several top clubs across Europe.
Arsenal, in particular, are keeping close tabs on the Senegalese international, who is said to be valued around £20 million. But, they could face stiff competition from Inter Milan, who are also keen on monitoring the progress of the 20-year-old forward.
Highly regarded as one of the most talented young players in European football, Ismaila Sarr’s rise to prominence dates back to last season when he made 24 Ligue 1 appearances for Stade Rennais. During that time, the 20-year-old netted five goals and mustered five assists, helping his club achieve an impressive fifth-placed finish at the end of the campaign.
His remarkable performances with Stade Rennais earned him a place in Senegal’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup earlier this summer and later, he also made the shortlist for the FIFA Golden Boy award – a prestigious award was ultimately won by France’s World Cup hero Kylian Mbappe.
As for Sarr, he is considered as a pretty attack-minded player as he often likes to go forward whenever he gets the ball. His raw pace coupled with his excellent awareness helps him create a lot of chances in the final third. He is also likened to Barcelona superstar Ousmane Dembele, largely thanks to his style of play in the final third as well as the fact that Dembele was also a former Stade Rennais winger.
Statistically, Sarr attempted over four dribbles per game last season as well as supplying almost one key pass. But, most importantly, it’s his pace and determination to attack, which makes him a feared attacker across the French top flight – something that cannot be backed up by statistics.
Despite their excellent form in the past few matches, Arsenal are still in dire need of attacking reinforcements given their lack of options in that department. Barring Alex Iwobi, no one is really a natural winger. Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez’s departures have meant that some of the players have been shoehorned in that role, but no one has impressed consistently.
Ismaila Sarr could, therefore, prove to be a viable target for Arsenal given his pace and dynamism in the final third, he’d be a real test for Premier League defences.
