West Ham United Boss Pleads For Support From Fans

Despite signing plenty of new players during the summer transfer window, West Ham United have started their Premier League season in a stuttering fashion. After being hammered 4-0 by Liverpool in the opening fixture, the Hammers were battered 1-2 by Bournemouth at the London Stadium yesterday.

Marko Arnautovic’s strike from the penalty spot put the hosts ahead in the first-half, but the Cherries came back stronger in the second period. An excellent individual effort from Callum Wilson levelled the score sheet and a few minutes later, Steve Cook’s header proved to be the winning goal.

Under the tutelage of manager Manuel Pellegrini, who was appointed earlier this summer, the London based outfit have a lot to do in the coming months to better their 13th-place finish of last term. Although no protests were seen yesterday, a good number of 56,888 fans at the stadium did leave early.

Speaking to the press after the game, Pellegrini asked for trust from the fans and was concerned about them leaving early. He said: “The fans must also trust again this season. The stadium was empty with 10 minutes to go, we can still score in that time. They need to believe but if you don’t have results it is more difficult for them.”
