Although the Premier League transfer window has closed, it doesn’t shut down for English Football League clubs until 31st August. As per one of the latest reports by ESPN, Geoff Cameron is seemingly likely to make an exit from bet365 Stadium before the end of the month.
Cameron started his senior career with West Virginia Mountaineers and Rhode Island Rams before moving to the ranks of the Potters in the summer of 2012. The 33-year-old is capable of plying his trade as a central defensive midfielder as well as a defender and versatility and experience are his strongest suits.
The Telegraph has reported that Stoke City’s boss Gary Rowett has told four of his players that they are free to leave, including Cameron. Apart from the United States international, Charlie Adam, Giannelli Imbula and Maxim Choupo-Moting have been told that they are surplus to the manager’s requirements.
Cameron was linked with a move to Southampton, but nothing concrete emerged. He hasn’t featured in his side’s match-day squad in their first two outings in the Championship. Reportedly, he has a release clause of $9.5m on his contract and it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for him.
