Watford And Leicester City Stars Amongst The Top 3 Midfielders Of Matchweek 2

The second matchweek of the Premier League once again produced some thrilling affairs as the clubs fought it out amongst themselves for those invaluable 3 points. Arsenal and Manchester United were the only clubs in the top-6 who failed to take any points from their games while Watford and Bournemouth continued their decent start, notching up their second victory this weekend.

There were a number of star performers in almost every area of the pitch in all 10 games and a plethora of midfielders put in some impressive shifts. Here are the top-3 midfielders from the Premier League for Matchweek 2:

James Maddison (Leicester City)

The former Norwich City midfielder was impressive even in the first game but against Wolves, he put in a solid shift and was the match winner for the Foxes this weekend. He scored a goal with his only shot on target and also made three successful tackles and three successful dribbles while controlling the tempo of the game in a no.10 role. Surely, his addition has made sure that Leicester do not miss Riyad Mahrez early this season.

David Silva (Manchester City)

Arguably the best midfielder operating in England at the moment, Silva was all over the Huddersfield Town midfield and backline, creating chance after chance and never giving them a hint of respite. He scored just minutes after the break, taking his side 4-1 up in a game City were expected to win either way. With a passing success rate of 91%, Silva also made four successful dribbles and a couple of interceptions as he played a perfect fiddle to Sergio Aguero, who ran away with a hat-trick. His form will be a huge boost for the Sky Blues with De Bruyne out for 3 months.

Will Hughes (Watford)

The 23-year old was impressive late last season but his start to the new league campaign might see him cement a place in the first team at Watford, pretty soon. Playing behind a two-man strike force, Hughes ran the Burnley defence ragged and was hard to mark. He registered a goal with just two shots on target but more importantly, he made six successful tackles and had a passing accuracy of 77%, which was crucial for the Hornets in registering their second win of the campaign. He was involved in most of the attacks the visitors put together at Turf Moor and Javi Gracia is sure to use him regularly from the next game.
