Strongest Possible Everton Lineup: Good Enough For Top 7

The Premier League transfer window is open for a few more days, meaning the clubs will need to act swiftly before Thursday’s deadline. But, few sides have already managed to sort out their squad for the forthcoming season.

We take a look at Everton‘s strongest XI as they look to start well under Marco Silva next season. Although the Toffees are yet to make a few necessary acquisitions, here’s how they might line-up with their current crop of players.

Defence

Marco Silva will have three options in the goalkeeping department with Jordan Pickford being the number one choice. The England international is coming on the back of an impressive 2018 World Cup campaign and will be full of confidence ahead of the new season.

In defence, the experienced Seamus Coleman will feature in the right-back position with new signing Lucas Digne is likely to start on the opposite flank. It will be exciting to see how the former Barcelona defender manages to settle in the English top flight.

Star defender Michael Keane, on the other hand, will partner with veteran skipper Phil Jagielka in central defence. Unfortunately for Silva, however, those two players will remain his only experienced options in central defence after Ashley Williams was shipped off to Stoke City on loan.

Midfield

Marco Silva’s 4-3-3 formation will comprise of a three-man midfield which could see Morgan Schneiderlin starting as the holding midfielder. The former Manchester United midfielder will be partnered by the duo of Idrissa Gueye and local lad Tom Davies.

Davies, in particular, has shown good ability at times and needs to be more consistent.

Alternatively, Silva could also opt to play Gueye as the holding midfielder with Gylfi Sigurdsson playing in a slightly advanced position. The Iceland international has failed to impress since moving to Merseyside last summer but definitely deserves another chance to show his talent.

Attack

Everton’s attack will be led by Cenk Tosun. The Turkish international was somewhat impressive in the second half of the last campaign, which fired Everton into a mid-table finish. But, we could also expect to see youngster Dominic-Calvert Lewin getting first-team opportunities.

In the wider positions, Ademola Lookman will be deployed on the left-hand side. The former RB Leipzig attacker impressed during pre-season and is one of the players to look out for in the forthcoming campaign.

New signing Richarlison will operate on the opposite flank. The Brazilian will be a vital cog in the Everton attack as they aim to silence a few critics after his big money move from Watford earlier this summer.
