Heart of Midlothian brushed aside Rangers’ £200,000 bid for striker Kyle Lafferty last month, but the two clubs are still in the process of negotiations. However, Lafferty showed his professionalism while speaking to BBC Scotland after he guided his side to a 1-0 win over Celtic at the Tynecastle Park on Saturday.
Lafferty was the one who scored the only goal of the game, which took Hearts to the top of the Scottish Premiership table. The Northern Ireland international’s contract with the Jambos is due to expire at the end of the season but he is in no mood to force his move to the Ibrox Stadium amidst interest from the Glasgow giants.
On being asked about the rumours of his exit, Lafferty said: “It’s nice to have teams like Rangers interested in me – I think everyone knows I’m a Rangers supporter – but obviously it’s up to the two clubs to work something out. Today it’s all about Hearts and we’ve got three points and that’s what I’m focusing on.”
The 30-year-old scored 19 goals in 44 outings for his current employer’s last term and had previously plied his trade for four campaigns with the Light Blues. With Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq being the only recognized strikers on the books of Steven Gerrard, Lafferty’s performance against the Celts would have certainly caught Gerrard’s attention.
