Premier League clubs are known to splash big money in the transfer window to build their squads and this window was no different. Traditionally, along with the usual big names, a number of impressive prospects would often join the top clubs and then fail to break into the first team. This year’s market was a bit different.
We witnessed a number of signings which took the footballing audience by surprise but it speaks about the overall quality and the appeal of the Premier League. We will witness fierce competition this season and without further ado let us take a look at 3 signings by mid-level clubs who are expected to have a huge impact.
A few years back, the 22-year old was touted as the next big thing for Germany. While he is yet to reach that level, Max Meyer spent five seasons with FC Schalke 04 and established himself as an integral part of the team. He played a prominent role as they finished second in the league table behind Bayern Munich and also reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal Cup.
He has played as a number 10 for most of his career but excelled in a deeper role for Schalke last campaign. The German international could be a great addition for The Eagles, especially after the departures of Yohan Cabaye and Ruben Loftus-cheek left a huge void in the midfield.
The Brazilian winger was linked with Manchester United in previous transfer windows but his move to London certainly makes sense even though it came as a bit of a surprise initially. He will be a regular name in the first team and will get the minutes he needs to develop himself.
He is a great dribbler and his speed during counter-attacks can be very effective for the team. He has certainly upped the overall quality of Pellegrini’s team and the fans will hope he settles into his new surroundings quickly.
Seri’s decision to join Fulham raised many eyebrows as he is considered one of the most gifted midfielders in Europe right now. He was linked with a move to the top European clubs like Barcelona and Manchester United and almost signed for the Catalan club last season. He likes to sit deep and dictate the tempo of the match from the midfield. The Whites’ first aim will be to survive in the Premier League and Seri will be their most important player in that quest.
