Manchester City commenced their Premier League title defence against arsenal in an appealing manner at the Emirates Stadium earlier today. The Cityzens went on to engineer a comfortable 2-0 win over the Gunners, with Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva finding the back of the net.
During the game, Sterling was certainly one of the players who impressed. During the post-match presentation, Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola defended the English international after the criticism that he faced following the World Cup and spoke highly of him.
“He did some very good things in the World Cup – how he moved created spaces for the others in behind. He would like to score a goal, and he tried, but I am pretty sure in the qualification for the European Championships, he will make good for England and will score some goals”, Guardiola replied while answering about Sterling’s performances in Russia.
The former Bayern Munich manager was bold in choosing the 23-year-old in his starting XI against Arsenal earlier today, despite the fact that the winger was the last player to return to training after the World Cup. “I think his mum and dad gave him a special body shape. He is small, tiny, and these kinds of guys are ready in one week”, said Guardiola.
