Liverpool strengthened their midfield during the summer by securing the services of Fabinho from Monaco for a whopping £43.7m. With Alisson, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri being their other signings, there is no denying that the Reds have genuinely assembled a star-studded arsenal.
Although Fabinho wasn’t used by Jurgen Klopp during his side’s 4-0 demolition of West Ham United on Sunday at the Anfield, he is certainly expected to play a key role for his employers this season. Interestingly, it has come to light that Brazilian international was convinced by Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva to move to Liverpool.
He told Sky Sports: “He (Bernardo) told me how much I would like Liverpool and how impressed he was by the way people here live, and breathe football. We were good friends at Monaco and he was one of the best players there.” Manchester City fans aren’t likely to be impressed with Silva’s aid to Liverpool in their recruitment drive.
Fabinho had a scintillating season in Ligue 1 last term as he scored 7 goals and registered 3 assists. Besides, he also mustered 3.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.7 clearances and 0.4 block per game on an average and it wasn’t surprising to see Klopp’s side rolling out such a hefty price tag to make him sign on the dotted line.
