After losing 2-0 at home to Manchester City in their opening fixture in the Premier League, Arsenal succumbed to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday to register a terrible start to their season. The Blues were 2-0 up before the Gunners levelled the scoresheet before the break.
However, Maurizio Sarri’s men had the last laugh as Marcos Alonso’s strike earned them all three points against their arch-rivals. In what was a really open game, Arsenal lacked defensive discipline and former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has lashed out at the north London outfit.
While speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “They (Arsenal) do not track runners from midfield. The back four do not identify runners from midfield and don’t shape up to be able to defend that. They’ve got no idea of where people are on the pitch. There’s disarray in the Arsenal backline, not only there but in the midfield as well.”
Arsenal have already squandered six points and their ambition for finishing inside the top-four spots already looks like a tough ask for them. Despite making five signings during the summer transfer window, they are yet to strike the right chords and the players have lacked the cohesion that was needed. Emery’s side are due to host West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and we expect a crunch fixture between them.
