In one of the latest developments in the transfer market, David Ospina has left Arsenal and has completed his move to Napoli. The Serie A giants have signed the Colombian international on loan with an option to make the move permanent.
Napoli had already signed two new goalkeepers in Orestis Karnezis and Alex Meret from the ranks of Udinese Calcio this summer but Meret picked up an injury during the club’s training session last month and is in the process of recovery. Therefore, the Azzurri were desperate to land a new shot-stopper before the end of this month.
Signed by the Gunners from Nice in 2014, Ospina was mainly used in cup competitions by Arsenal’s former manager Arsene Wenger. The 29-year-old did get a lot of chances to impress during his stay with the North London based outfit but he never really grabbed them with both hands.
Ospina had fallen behind in the pecking order due to the entry of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer. Unai Emery also has Petr Cech and Emiliano Martinez on his books and it goes without saying that Ospina was surplus to the requirements of the former Paris Saint-Germain manager.
