Confirmed: Lampard Agrees Deal For Chelsea Player

Chelsea’s prodigy Fikayo Tomori has joined Derby County on a season-long loan deal. The Blues have a plethora of stars to cater to their central defensive needs and therefore, Tomori might not have received an adequate amount of opportunities to showcase his calibre on the pitch had he stayed at the Stamford Bridge this season.

Tomori emerged through the youth ranks of Chelsea and went on to make his debut for them in their 1-1 draw in the Premier League with Leicester City in their final game of the 2015-16 campaign. In the January transfer window of 2017, he was shipped out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion and he helped them in earning the uplift to the top flight.

Last summer, he switched to Hull City on loan and garnered 25 appearances under his belt in the Championship, during which he bagged a couple of assists. Besides, he mustered 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 3 clearances and 0.4 block per game on an average. Without any shadow of doubt, he helped Hull City in their route towards survival.

Tomori had captained the Canadian Under-20 side owing to his upbringing in England, he was allowed to represent England’s Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 sides. Predominantly, he is a centre-back but is capable enough to operate as a right-back. He is strong, has the required pace and is quite competent, both technically and tactically.

Tomori tasted promotion with the Seagulls in 2017 and had a notable season with the Tigers during the previous campaign. He is well acquainted with the competition that Championship offers and he is expected to take very little time to settle under Lampard’s side. His versatility should be beneficial for the Rams in their push for promotion.

Lampard and assistant manager Jody Morris are familiar with the calibre he possesses and at Derby County, the 20-year-old is expected to get a notable amount of game time. This should enable him in brushing himself further and at the same time, Chelsea will be able to check whether he is a player worth having on their books or not.
