Dedryck Boyata was one of the instrumental players under the tutelage of Roberto Martinez during the World Cup in Russia. The centre-back featured regularly for Belgium national side and helped his national side in paving their way to the semi-final of the competition.
After his return to Celtic from national duty, Boyata has been a subject of interest from various clubs, with Sevilla reportedly planning shell out £10m in the coming weeks to sign him. Earlier this summer, the Hoops had rejected a bid of £9m from Fulham for the 27-year-old.
Boyata is in the final year of his contract with the Scottish champions and his agent Jaques Lichtenstein has implied that the player is vouching for an exit from the Celtic Park. He said: “Dedryck is disappointed because he has been made promises that have not been kept.”
Owing to the same, Celtic’s legend Chris Sutton labelled him a ‘disgrace’. He tweeted: Dedryck Boyata should be grateful Celtic gave him the opportunity to play. While he has some good attributes he has been a bomb scare at times. He is a disgrace. Celtic need to get him out of the building ASAP.”
Apparently, Brendan Rodgers’ future at Celtic is also looking doubtful due to his battle with the board over the club’s lack of activities during the summer transfer window. However, the former Liverpool boss cleared the conundrum. He stated: “I’ve got three years left on my contract here and I love every day of my life at Celtic.”
