Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was lured to the Emirates Stadium by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the January transfer window for a club-record fee, which is reported to be £60m. From the onset, the fans have had high expectations from Aubameyang for obvious reasons.
In the second half of the previous campaign, the Gabon international plundered 10 goals and also mustered 4 assists in 13 Premier League outings. Impliedly, he had a blistering start to life in English football, but the scenery hasn’t been an appealing one so far for him in this campaign.
Aubameyang hardly made his presence felt in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Manchester City and he wasted a lot of goal scoring opportunities against Chelsea last weekend. The Gunners eventually lost 3-2 in the crunch London derby at the Stamford Bridge, which made the North London outfit suffer two losses on trot.
Apparently, Arsenal manager Unai Emery feels that the 29-year-old is lacking confidence after a disappointing start to the new season. He said: “Aubameyang needs to find the confidence, then to score and another to score. The striker, they need, I know a lot of strikers in my career and it’s about the moment, they need the moment, and he’s the same.”
