West Bromwich Albion Pursuing 14-Goal Winger: An Excellent Move In The Offing?

According to a recent report by Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion are keen to lure Aston Villa star, Albert Adomah, to the Hawthorns this summer. Adomah was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United after the Magpies were frustrated in their pursuit to sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace but the Villans have not yet been approached officially.

Aston Villa are in a deep financial crisis owing to the restrictions imposed by the Financial Fair Play rules. They have to generate £40million to avoid administration and one of the primary ways to do the same will be by selling some of their prized assets. The reason for their financial restrictions can be traced to their failure to get promoted last season. And the fact that they fell short in such a manner will be hurting even more.

Steve Bruce has already stated that James Chester, Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia are likely to be sold this summer. Just like the three players mentioned, Adomah is unarguably one of the best players in the ranks of Bruce. In 42 appearances in the Championship last season, the Ghanaian international managed to find the back of the net on 14 occasions and he also managed to muster 5 assists.

Adomah played a pivotal role in Aston Villa’s journey to the play-off final, where they eventually lost to Fulham. The report also states that the Lions were willing to chalk a new deal with the winger and negotiations had begun. But owing to their failure to get themselves back to the Premier League, a new contractual agreement has not been arrived at.

The Baggies experienced a stuttering and forgettable season in the Premier League last term and by the time the season came to a close, it wasn’t a surprise to see them getting relegated. But there was a sense of positivity just before the crushing realisation and the fans will find solace in that positivity and hope for a galvanising season leading to an immediate promotion.

And Darren Moore will certainly want someone experienced like Adomah in his ranks.

The 30-year-old is capable of operating on either wing and has a knack for scoring goals as well as creating chances for his teammates. Besides, he showcases immense work-ethic and makes a significant amount of defensive contributions more often than not. Although Bruce is keen to retain Adomah for the 2018-19 campaign, the decision is not entirely in his hands as the club needs to raise funds to comply with FFP regulations.
