Tottenham Hotspur will have to spend £70million to get wing-wizard: Is he worth pursuing?

You think of transfer sagas, and Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur for a powerhouse club is perhaps always one you’ll always find on the rumour mill. Though Kane has already extended his contract, because of how good he is, there will always be the paper talk of him leaving the club.

In the recent year or so, another player who has always managed to find his name on the rumour mill is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

Palace are a side who inevitably end up finding themselves in a relegation scrap despite having some capable players, and every time that happens, Zaha seems to decide to turn it on and rescue the team from trouble.

According to a report from Dailystar, Tottenham, a side who have been linked with the former Manchester United attacker, will have to pay at least £70 million for Zaha. Yes, you heard that right. £70 million.

Spurs, of course, are yet to sign a single player this summer. With almost two weeks to go before the first round of Premier League games, Spurs need to sign their targets quick to get them as much time with their new teammates. But the question here is, is Zaha worth pursuing?

It’s not that Zaha is a bad player, it’s just that £70 million for someone like him is ridiculous. Palace, of course, are trying to get as much money as possible. A few days ago, Everton decided to spend a mammoth £40m on Richarlison. That’s what the market stands at.

The Brazilian basically had half a good season at Watford and that was enough for Everton to go big. Zaha has been around for a while and has brought in a level of consistency to his game that wasn’t seen when he made his move to Manchester United a few years ago.

At the time, the move was too big for him as he was still pretty young and not all that experienced. Following a quiet spell, he was resigned by Palace and ever since, he has done well without all the pressure.

Zaha was deployed as a forward in 21 games by Hodgson last season and he did pretty well in those games. He featured in 29 games and managed to score nine times. He could be a good backup striker for Harry Kane or play as a wide player where he can use his pace and dribbling ability to create openings for the North Londoners.

His versatility is something Spurs can use in the upcoming season, but for the fee being quoted, they will get better players from other leagues.
