Leeds United Amongst Three Possible Destinations For 33 Y/O Premier League Star

According to a recent report by Liverpool Echo, Everton have identified Ben Gibson and Alfie Mawson as potential targets to beef up their central defence. The Toffees struggled in the Premier League last season but with Marco Silva being appointed as the new manager of the club, they would be hoping for some serious and fruitful activity over the remainder of the summer transfer window.

Besides, the report also states that Everton are keen to lure Yerry Mina to the Goodison Park from Barcelona to strengthen their back line. However, their apparent interests have left Ashley Williams on the brink of an exit from the club. The centre-back joined the Blues in the summer of 2016 from Swansea City but hasn’t been able to make a galvanizing impact at Everton.

The Welsh national side’s captain recently admitted that he was frustrated last season due to lack of playing time. Everton are willing to listen to offers for Williams, who has just one year left on his contract. Although the Welshman isn’t at his peak anymore, he still has a year or two of competitive football left in him and here are three clubs where he could possibly flourish.

Cardiff City

The newly promoted Premier League side are set to lock horns against the finest English clubs and it would be beneficial for them to bag someone like Williams who has truckloads of experience under his belt. He is a strong centre-back who also possesses notable leadership qualities and it wouldn’t be absurd to make him sign on the dotted line this summer.

Leeds United

Leeds United conceded plenty of goals last season and this was one of the main reasons why The Whites struggled to make an impact in the race for promotion. Marcelo Bielsa’s side need reinforcements and the 33-year-old defender could be an excellent choice at the back for the 2018-19 campaign. Besides, this step should help Williams in resurrecting his career and putting it back on the right track while possibly reinstating his confidence.

Southampton

Ever since the departure of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool, Southampton have not been able to maintain a consistent defensive solidity. Southampton were involved in the relegation dogfight last season in the Premier League and escaping it wasn’t an easy affair for them. With the apparent availability of Williams in the transfer market, the Saints could try to rope him into their ranks, for he can provide leadership and direction from the back.
