Real Madrid Linked With Tottenham Hotspur Star: Can Pochettino Afford To Lose Him?

The Whole Story:

Real Madrid are obviously looking for a good custodian but are unlikely to pursue David de Gea due to a couple of reasons. Firstly, Manchester United are adamant to keep hold of their star man who has been their best player over the last few seasons and secondly, Madrid would want to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the best manner possible, rather than spend an astronomical fee on a goalkeeper now.

Accordingly, a recent report states that French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is being targeted by the Champions League winners with the current Tottenham keeper coming on the back of an excellent World Cup. Lloris was France’s captain in their victorious World Cup campaign and was stellar throughout their run, barring that single howler in the finals that led to Marko Mandzukic’s goal.

Lloris’ goalkeeping technique is very efficient, as he is commanding in nature and very strong in one on one situations. He exudes confidence whilst playing in a high line defensive shape. The Frenchman is blessed with quick reflexes and is one of the best shot-stoppers around.

Lloris is quite good with the ball at his feet and is a good distributor, something that allows the team to play with more fluidity. The 31-year-old has enough experience and possesses the required temperament to play for the biggest of clubs.

He might commit the occasional error but the aberration never overshadows his brilliance in general. Lloris is experienced, technically equipped and has a calm head on his shoulders.

However, this also means that he is very crucial for Tottenham Hotspur too. If Spurs aspire to compete for the top spots and collect silverware, then it is essential that they keep hold of their best players. Lloris has been a stalwart for them over the past few years and his presence makes their backline even more assured.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team are one of the most defensively sound teams in the Premier League, as their compact defence does not leak goals easily. However, Lloris’ astounding work between the sticks is praiseworthy, as he certainly guarantees assurance even if the backline slips up now and then.

It is a general belief that Real Madrid usually get their man and hence an offer from Los Blancos would be difficult to turn down. As of now, Tottenham do not even have an able backup and their reliance on Lloris is way too much for the Lilywhites to go on and sell him now. Daniel Levy will make it difficult for Real Madrid and I personally do not see this transfer happening anytime soon.
