Huddersfield Town Sign 22 Y/O French Winger: Just What Wagner Needed?

Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of French winger Adama Diakhaby from Monaco on a three-year contract.

David Wagner was pleased with his new acquisition and sounded optimistic about his prospects ahead:

“He is a very hungry young footballer with a strong desire to succeed in England,”

“Obviously he is still learning and improving at 22 years old, but he already has many of the qualities that we look for in our attacking players.

“He’s a direct player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and with genuine pace, which suits our style perfectly.”

Diakhaby, 22, spent last season with Monaco after initially moving from Stade Rennais last summer. However, after arriving at the club, the Frenchman has failed to impose his authority and a move away from Stade Louis was always on the cards.

After narrowly surviving relegation last campaign, head coach David Wagner is keen on making a better impression in the forthcoming season. As a result of which, the Terriers have already made quite a lot of acquisitions in the market with the likes of Erik Durm, Ramadan Sobhi, Juninho Bacuna all coming in.

Thus, the addition of Adama Diakhaby will further strengthen depth in the attacking department especially with Steve Mounie being their only reliable option in the goal-scoring department.

Colin Quaner, despite featuring in 26 league matches last season has failed to find the back of the net. Therefore, the former Union Berlin striker could be left on the chopping blocks in the upcoming season with Laurent Depoitre scoring six goals last term.

The addition of Diakhaby, on the other hand, will provide David Wagner with an extra dimension in his side’s offensive gameplay. Tall and lithe, the striker from Monaco is an ideal offensive player for a team who will be eager to take as many points as possible from clubs around them.

The 22-year-old is often an intimidating presence in the opposition box and is someone who is very difficult to mark. He is also advertised as a lethal finisher, though he hasn’t been able to showcase it during his time at Monaco. But that being said, Huddersfield can provide him with adequate opportunities to redeem himself as one of the talented up and coming stars in French football.

However, transitioning to the English top flight might be a tough ask for the former Stade Rennais player considering the fact he lacks the experience of playing abroad. The 22-year-old has played his entire career in France and thus the lad definitely has a challenge on his hands.
