Chelsea Linked With Serie A Goalmachine: Should Sarri Make A Move?

Transfer News:

Chelsea have officially announced Maurizio Sarri as their new manager and hence one can expect that the Blues will be much more active and fluent in their transfer activities in the last two weeks of the transfer window. And hence, a recent report linking Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea does not come as a surprise. Juventus have confirmed the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid and the Turin-based club might look to offload some players in order to balance their books.

Chelsea have been left disappointed with Alvaro Morata’s poor form ever since he moved to England and hence that prompted Antonio Conte to buy Olivier Giroud in January. Giroud settled in well but it remains to be seen whether Sarri will be comfortable with the Frenchman as his Plan B or Plan A in some cases.

Gonzalo Higuain: Player Profile

Higuain is one of the most prolific strikers of this generation and though his international performances have been underwhelming, to say the least, the Argentine is surely a great forward. Having played for clubs like Real Madrid, Napoli and now Juventus, Higuain’s finishing is his biggest strength. Over the years, he has developed his overall game and now Higuain is also seen dropping down a line to orchestrate the play.

He forms passing triangles and roams around the attacking line in order to bring other forwards into play. Higuain can thread in through-balls and uses his physical strength in order to hold off the defenders well. According to Whoscored, last season, he scored 16 goals in 35 appearances for Juventus in the Serie A. Higuain assisted six goals and took 2.9 shots on target per game.

He dribbled past his opponents 1.5 times on an average and delivered 0.9 key passes in each match. Higuain scored five times in 10 games in the UEFA Champions League last season. The Argentine, along with Paulo Dybala and Mario Manduzikic has created a very potent frontline for the Old Lady but Higuain’s time at Juventus might come to an end soon.

Should Chelsea make a move?

Alvaro Morata might have struggled in his first season at Chelsea but the Spaniard surely possesses the required quality and talent to prosper while playing for the Blues. He is a much younger(already available) alternative as compared to Higuain and can be quite effective provided he manages to stay fit throughout the season. The club already has a very good backup in Olivier Giroud and with these two options, they should be good enough to go ahead.

Higuain is 30-years-old and being a striker, many believe he might be past his prime. He will take some time to settle into a new league and Chelsea should not risk going for him right now. Maybe, optimum utilization of their current players would pay richer dividends.

Most men will find, however, that the effects more of the pill.
