Derby County Sign Dynamic Duo On Loan: Excellent Move by Lampard?

Derby County finished at the 6th spot in the Championship standings last season, thus earning an opportunity to fight for promotion through the playoffs. However, it was not to be and the fans and the club will have another long season ahead of them trying to do it all over again. But there is a certain sense of optimism this time around, mainly due to the exciting appointment of Frank Lampard as the manager.

Lampard’s introduction at the Pride Park Stadium brought some freshness to the proceedings. The former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder, however, took 47 days after his appointment to make his presence felt in the transfer market. Derby County recently concluded the signing of two promising young guns in Harry Wilson and Mason Mount on loan from the ranks of Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.

Both of them are blossoming talents of English football and there is no denying that. Wilson was heavily linked with various Championship sides for a loan move but the Rams had the last laugh. The 21-year-old, despite the calibre he possesses, hasn’t been able to break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Liverpool and thus, a loan spell with Derby County should help him in brushing himself further.

Wilson spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan with Hull City and he certainly made a positive impression during his tenure at the KCOM Stadium. In 13 appearances, the Welsh international smashed 7 goals and also garnered 3 assists. It is understood that Klopp is reluctant to lose him and sees him as a future servant of the club and owing to the same, he has shipped him out on loan.

During Wilson’s time in the ranks of the Tigers, he acclimatized himself with the animosity that Championship has on offer. He would be a handy asset for Lampard this season and just like Wilson, Mount also has his name inked in the good books of the football fraternity. Due to the plethora of stars in the midfield contingent of Chelsea, his is understandably yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club.

The 19-year-old put in some dazzling displays in Eredivisie last term after he was sent out on loan to Vitesse plundering 14 goals and 9 assists in 32 appearances in the Dutch top division. Mount was a part of the English side that won the European Under-17 Championship in 2017 and was named the player of the tournament and he needs to make the most of his loan spell with Derby County to take his developmental process to the next level.
