Barcelona surprisingly hijacked AS Roma’s deal for Brazilian right-winger Malcolm and this has apparently caused some jitters in their own squad. French winger Ousmane Dembele seems to be intent on looking for a move away in search of regular playing time elsewhere.
Ever since his much talked about transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, Dembele has struggled to keep hold of his place in the team. He was troubled due to successive injuries and later inconsistent form followed him until the end of the season. Dembele was abysmal for France in the World Cup too and was dropped after an insipid performance against Australia.
Even against Peru, he failed to reach anywhere near his usual standards and hence the lad’s career seems to be in a very delicate situation currently. Accordingly, Malcolm’s move is likely to make his position in the squad even more doubtful and hence Dembele is reportedly looking to move to Chelsea in order to revive his playing career.
Chelsea are in the market to sort out their attacking department and Dembele’s ability to play on either wing will be welcomed with open arms at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, Chelsea have volatile players like Willian and Pedro on their roster for the right flank and this is something that Maurizio Sarri would look to resolve in the coming week.
Dembele is an extremely quick, skilful and productive winger, capable of playing anywhere across the attacking line. His dribbling skills reign supreme amongst his peers and the fast pace coupled with the ability to beat his marker consistently makes him stand out.
Dembele can play one-touch passing football on the move too, and his first touch, as well as his passing ability in and around the penalty box, is appreciable. He is quite clinical in front of the goal, as Dembele provides and makes the best use of goal-scoring opportunities with the calm head on his shoulders. He can thread accurate passes for the centre-forward making the run and takes occasional, sumptuous long-shots too.
Even though Malcolm arrived at Barcelona, Dembele will surely be the first-choice winger in any scenario. Most probably, Malcolm will be eased into the team, as Dembele would be given a longer, consistent run to prove his worth. He is currently looking for stability in his career, and that is something, which he would receive from Barcelona provided he stays with them beyond this transfer market.
