Aston Villa Keen On 21 Y/O Liverpool Winger: A Move Bruce Needs To Make?

According to a recent report by Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa have put Liverpool winger Harry Wilson on their radar and are keen to lure him to the Villa Park. Wilson has been one of the most sought-after players so far this summer as many Championship clubs are aiming to sign him on loan.

It will be interesting to see whether Aston Villa can beat off the interest of their rivals to get Wilson. The Villans are in a very sorry financial state at the moment with Steve Bruce even stating to Sky Sports that they need to raise £40million in order to comply with the regulations imposed by Financial Fair Play after their failure to secure promotion last season saw their balance sheet going awry.

Tony Xia has made it clear that the club is not for sale but they are handcuffed and bound to take some serious measures. Three of the most prized assets in Jonathan Kodjia, Jack Grealish and James Chester are on the brink of an exit from the Villa Park. Impliedly, these exits are definitely going to take a toll on their promotional endeavours this season.

With the club set to be weakened considerably, signing Wilson on loan can bring a huge sigh of relief for the Lions. The 21-year-old emerged through the youth ranks of Liverpool and is unarguably one of the highly rated starlets on their books. Jurgen Klopp rates him very highly and is understandably reluctant to let him leave on a permanent transfer.

However, Klopp has a plethora of stars at his disposal and this might not render the adequate amount of opportunities for Wilson to get regular game time under his belt. Thus, a loan spell with a renowned club like Aston Villa should help him in polishing himself further. Besides, he spent the second half of the previous campaign with Hull City and made a solid impression in the Championship.

The Welsh international scored 7 goals and registered 3 assists in 13 league appearances for the Tigers. Capable of plying his trade on either wing, Wilson has pace to burn and his crossing has improved manifold as seen in his displays last season. He reads the game well and is a set-piece specialist as well. Although he is far from being a finished product, he has the potential to help Aston Villa offensively to a large extent this season.
