According to latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur are already preparing for life without Danny Rose, having set aside a €30 million fee should the player leave the club.
Rose, 28, has been heavily linked with a move out of London for the past 12 months with Manchester United, in particular, showing keen interest. Although a move to the Red Devils didn’t come to fruition earlier this year, Rose is destined to leave the club, after having played second fiddle to Ben Davies last season.
Having said that, Rose is highly rated as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and replacing him will definitely prove to be difficult for the Lilywhites despite Ben Davies’ impressive performances.
We pick out three players Spurs could sign if Danny Rose departs this summer.
#3 Alejandro Grimaldo – SL Benfica
Tottenham’s desired replacement for Rose, Alejandro Grimaldo has been long linked with a move to North London over the past 12 months or so. As per reports, the Lilywhites have been the tracking the progress of the Benfica left-back, who made quite an impression in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
According to Portuguese publication Record, Spurs have set aside €30m to launch a bid for Grimaldo this summer, depending on what happens with Danny Rose.
Since joining from Barcelona in 2016, Grimaldo has managed to establish a regular place in the Benfica starting eleven. In fact, he was a mainstay in the defensive backline for the Eagles last campaign, making as many as 28 appearances.
The Spaniard is definitely a talented individual who is more than capable of making a mark in the English top flight. And with Pochettino’s ability to nurture young talents, very few would bet against the 22-year-old becoming a success at Tottenham next season.
