Manchester City won the Premier League title pretty convincingly this past season but they are ready to improve their squad with better players. Despite possessing a complete squad at the moment, Pep Guardiola might again spend heavily this summer. One of the latest players to be linked to the Mancunian club is Napoli star Jorginho.
City need some more depth in the midfield and signing Jorginho would be a priority as the Italian midfielder was consistently good for his club this past season.
It is understandable that he wants to move away in search of better recognition, money and European success, and hence City seems to be firm favourites to land him despite obvious interest from Chelsea too.
Jorginho: The Midfield General
Jorginho is essentially a deep-lying playmaker, as his abilities on the ball and passing acumen are brilliant. He is actually one of the most underrated midfielders in the whole of Europe most probably because he goes about his work silently. Sitting deep in the field, his game-awareness and intelligent is praiseworthy, as he stops the attack with some astute and accurate positioning. Jorginho regularly helps the defenders by keeping himself busy and is usually the anchor for the second line of defence of Napoli. He is good at short-passes and can form some mesmerizing passing triangles in the midfield. Jorginho’s assurance at the ball, the composure to play quick passes and to find the right man in the forward positions makes him an excellent restiga.
He has an excellent passing range, that enables him to switch the flanks in the play or to directly thread through-balls in between the defenders. He has a commanding presence and specializes in transitioning defensive situations into quick-counterattacks due to his immaculate passing sense. Jorginho has recorded a passing accuracy of 89.5% in the Serie A this season. He has also scored twice and assisted four times in 33 appearances, but the role that he carries out in creating the play and to regularly initiate attacking moves is often underrated. With him on the side, no attacking midfielder needs to drop back as Jorginho can find the forwards from deeper positions quite precisely with a consistent rate.
Should Manchester City sign him?
Pep Guardiola is always fond of dynamic midfielders who have a good passing brain. Jorginho is undoubtedly one of the best central midfielders in entire Europe as of now. Manchester City are keen to defend the Premier League title next time around and hence it is necessary to add up numbers and good players in the squad for that.
Jorginho will be in demand this summer, and the player looks completely suitable to Pep’s style of play. He can seamlessly replace or rotate with Fernandinho and hence this transfer makes a lot of sense currently.
Latest Update
With the transfer taking longer than one had imagined, the player is now apparently ‘desperate‘ for things to get sorted quickly as Pep has apparently started looking at alternatives in case the move fails to materialise.
