Reports: Chelsea Make A Move For Greek Defensive Rock

Premier League giants Chelsea FC are set to move for Kostas Manolas, according to latest reports from the UK. The Roma superstar has been linked with a move out of Italy for the past few months and could be destined for a big-money move this summer.

Manolas is said to have a release clause of €38m, with a host of clubs interested in his services. Chelsea, in particular, have already opened talks with the Greek international over a potential switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Following an abysmal season in the English top flight, the Blues are keen to strengthen their team for next season as they look to rise back among the European elites once again. Current head coach Antonio Conte is highly tipped to be sacked before the end of this month, paving way for a new manager. The West-Londoners have already been linked with a move for Maurizio Sarri. But either way, Chelsea are expected to undergo a major squad overhaul this summer.

Despite their fair share of managerial problems, however, Chelsea have been busy getting on with their transfer activity this summer, with Kostas Manolas emerging as the latest player to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Manolas, 27, has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Serie A for the past few seasons. Since moving to Roma in the summer of 2014, the Greek international has made over 170 competitive appearances for the Italian giants. However, that being said, the highly rated defender is yet to win a major silverware with Roma. Therefore, it’s about time he seeks pastures new, in order to add some trophies into his illustrious career so far.

A move to Chelsea, in that regard, could be an ideal decision for the 27-year-old. Highly touted as one of the best defenders in Serie A, Manolas could revitalize Chelsea’s defensive department, which has been somewhat clumsy, following a super-impressive debut campaign under Antonio Conte. Even though Andreas Christensen has seemed to establish himself as a regular in the starting eleven, the club is still pondering over the future of Gary Cahill while Antonio Rudiger, another former Roma defender, has failed to live up to his billing as of yet.

Hence, Kostas Manolas is a viable target for Chelsea considering his vast experience of playing in the top flight. However, it remains to be seen as to what measures does the PL giants take in order to acquire his services this summer.
