3 Manchester United stars who can light up the 2018 FIFA World Cup

The 2017/18 season did not end the way Manchester United faithful would have wanted and though there are no club games for more than a month, the World Cup this year in Russia will keep the fans interested. The Red Devils have a strong squad with a number of players travelling to the main event starting in mid-June.

But who are the players who could be influential in Russia? Here are three Manchester United players to watch out for in this edition of the FIFA World Cup:

#3 Paul Pogba (France)

The record signing for Manchester United, who is yet to live up to his price tag, Pogba is among the best midfielders in world football at the moment.

He had a decent season at Old Trafford and is a crucial part of the Didier Deschamps’ squad travelling to Russia later this month. Pogba was not too effective in his debut World Cup campaign, where they lost to Russia but alongside an in-form N Golo Kante, he could be a real force to reckon with in national colours.

He has top class players playing around him and is actually one of the players to watch out for in the entire competition.

#2 David de Gea (Spain)

The successor to Iker Casillas in the Spanish national side, De Gea was once again one of the most influential stars in the domestic campaign for the Red Devils.

Statistically, among the best in his role at the moment in Europe, De Gea will start under the bar for one of the favourites in the competition and his performances could determine Spain’s destiny this year.

He broke into the Spain squad for the last World Cup but did not get even a minute of action, after Spain were knocked out of the group stages. He is now one of the first names on the team sheet for Julen Lopetegui’s side and will have many eyes on him.

#1 Jesse Lingard (England)

The 25-year old has acted as the wild card for Manchester United, producing match-winning performances in crunch games. He will have a similar role in Gareth Southgate’s squad and will travel to Russia in what will be his debut in the competition.

Lingard has just 10 appearances under his belt but has a squad full of players who are ready to play to his strengths. He may not be a regular starter but will certainly play the role of an impact player, when given the chance at the highest stage.
