Manchester United defender could be on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers: A good move?

As per latest reports by talkSPORT, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is likely to join the ranks of Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer. Lindelof has not received the adequate amount of opportunities this season to showcase his calibre on the pitch and thus, a loan spell seems to be on the cards for him next season to ensure that he keeps up his progress instead of stagnating at the club.

Lindelof signed for the Red Devils last summer for a whopping £31million from Benfica and quite a lot of expected from him. However, the 23-year-old has not done enough to convince his manager. He averages 1 tackle, 0.8 interceptions, 3 clearances and 1 block. Not the most inspiring of stats, is it?

Despite having started in the recent games against Swansea City, Arsenal and West Ham United, Lindelof has a lot to prove to cement his place in Mourinho’s starting line-up next season. Currently, he is behind the likes of Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones and a loan spell with the Wolves can prove to be beneficial for the Swedish international considerably.

A good fit at Wolves?

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side had a spectacular season in the Championship. They stormed to the English Premier League by clinching 99 points from 46 league encounters and have a pretty good side to challenge even the better Premier League sides. They do need to enhance their arsenal in the summer and someone like Lindelof will be a good option.

Predominantly a centre-back, he is capable enough of operating as the right-back as well. Apart from his versatility, it has to be considered that he is a clever reader of the game and has a good physicality.

Espírito Santo had gone with a three-man defensive wall on most of the occasions during the season and the defenders he had at his disposal performed admirably. However, the step up from the Championship to the Premier League is tough and the Wolves need all the quality and experience they can get.

Lindelof is still young and a loan spell with a newly promoted outfit means his chances of getting regular game time will increase considerably.
